Things don't always turn out the way you think they will.
The supernatural sector of Forks had finally seemed to be settling back to normal. Well, as normal as it was going to get for two groups of otherworldly creatures trying to occupy the same area, plus the humans that had happened to get caught between. All the more reason Edward felt like he had to get to the bottom of these mysterious homicides. The rest of the Cullens had decided that it was a newborn that had somehow evaded the Volturi's iron ruling in the winter battle. But Edward felt different. He couldn't prove it, but his gut was telling him that somehow, it was more than meets the eye. He trawled Washington state for a month, his target always just evading him, arriving just as the somehow familiar scent faded completely. This was no newborn. But who could it be?
And then the other shoe dropped. Out on what he thought would be another fruitless run, he caught sight of her bright hair. Victoria. If vampires were capable of heart attack, our hero would have been keeled over, clutching his left arm. Despite everything, including the fact that he had personally taken part in her dismemberment, she was somehow still alive. As anyone could see, this was not a good development. The patterns of travel she made now made sense, as they hadn't before. She was taunting them. Her kills were growing closer and closer to Forks. It was time for the Cullens to put her down for good, before she attempted to harm those they cared for yet again. But will Edward's family believe him, when he comes back from hunting with his incredible tale? Victoria is supposed to be dead, everyone saw it happen. So, naturally, they're going to need a bit of convincing; after all Edward has always had a
Tendency to Overreact.
