Esme walked into the house. The setting was perfect. A sunny beach on an island to themselves. They didn't have to worry about anyone learning of their lives as vampires, well because there was no one else here.
They hadn't told the kids much, only that they were going away for a few days. Carlisle and Esme just wanted a little time to themselves and Esme hoped that the children would conduct themselves in a respectible manner.
She set her bag down on the bed in the main bedroom. Their time here would be pleasant if anything. No interuptions to get in the way and they didn't have to worry about Carlisle having to go to work. It was just the two of them and it would be great.

Carlisle had squared a few days with the hospital. After all he had clocked up some serious over time, and vacation time. He had covered countless times for others, when they were sick or had personal business. So really they had it coming, that he might take a few. And who better to spend it with, then Esme. The women who he cared more about than anyone or anything.
The kids, knew where to find them, and how to contact them if there just happened to be an accident, or something happened. Which he hoped wouldn't but then, fate and life had a way of plotting against them. Carlisle could almost see, the respectable manor in which they should conduct themselves, however their views, and what actually might happen. Well only time would tell, but whoa betide any of them who jeopardised their stay in Forks.
Carlisle walked quietly into the main bedroom, as he placed his bag along side the bed. It was something of a habit. He smiled at Esme, as he glanced out of the window, and then brought his gaze back to her. The most beautiful person he had ever, been privileged to set eyes upon. "Looks like we finally got away." He said, as he smiled and walked over to her. Slipping his arms around her waist.

She turned to him with a smile. She had been on edge the entire trip because she had a feeling that someone would reel them back. But as they stood here in this room reality set in that they were free. It was so liberating. "It looks like it." She said with a soft smile towards him.
She looked out through the patio doors to the waves crashing to the shore. It was so peaceful here and she regretted not coming here more often. "So do you have anything in mind as to what we should do first?" She asked him curiously. She knew their stay here was limited so she wanted to make the best of it.

Carlisle had been his usual cal self. Sure there was that undeniable nagging feeling in the back of his mind that someone was going to call, or something would happen. But luckily they had been able to get away. To get away to their on little paradise, in which there was no one but themselves. A strange concept at first, but it was something that Carlisle could get used to.
Carlisle smiled softly at Esme, as she spoke, "How about a walk along the shore?" He suggested, as the day seemed wonderful outside, and the whole day was even more beautiful just to be with Esme. "It has been a while since we have been here. However standing here with you Esme, its magical" He said softly to her, as he smiled and kissed her forehead gently.

Esme smiled softly and leaned her forehead against his chin and slid her arms around his waist. She loved Carlisle with every fiber of her being. Being here alone with him for the first time in a while, made it even better. This was their repreive and they would take full advantage of everything it had to offer in their time of isolation.
She listened to his soothing voice as she let her eyes close softly. She was taking in everything about the moment. The peace and quiet, the smells and the sounds, everything about this place was perfect. "Yes, a walk on the beach sounds wonderful."
She slid her hands from his waist to his hands until their fingers were interlocked together. This was the perfect moment in the perfect place. Nothing could this time from them. It was their time and they would find a way to make it last forever. "Carlisle, this place was a wonderful gift that you gave me, but it cannot stand up against the gift you gave me by coming into my life. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me."

Esme's scent was so close to intoxicating. If he did not know better, he would think he was in heaven, with an angle. Esme was Carlisle's life, he could never imagine being without her, at all. He was so sure he could not live with out Esme, if anything happened to her, he was not sure what he would do. Standing there, hugging her as if protecting Esme for the world, meant more to him than he could ever say, or show.
Time seemed to just stand still, it was like someone had stopped a clock somewhere, and all he saw in the universe was Esme. He knew what a cliché it was, but that did not mean it was not true. All he could hear was Esme, all he could see was Esme. He smiled as she agreed. She was the one who held his heart, it may not beat and was as useful as a chocolate fire guard, but Esme kept it.
He took a breath as he felt their hand interlock. Carlisle was waiting, for the phone call, or some disaster that would cause everything to fall apart. It had happened so many times before, and it was not anyone's fault really, just some bad luck. Carlisle beamed as the words spoken by his angle floated to his ears. "Most would beg to differ." He replied, "But thank you. Esme you know how much I care about you. How much I love you." He said, it was moments like these that really meant a lot.
"I really can not tell you how much I love you." he told her, saddened by that a little as he squeezed her hand a little. "I'm never going to let anything happen to you, you are my angle." he said.

Esme just beamed up at him. He had always been slightly taller than she was.But it made them fit even better. This moment was perfect and she didn't want it to end. A nuclear bomb could go off somewhere and she wouldn't care. This moment, here and now, was their's to share. Nothing could take this away. She would never leave his side ever again.
"Carlisle. This idea to come here was brilliant. We needed the break away from our lives. The fact that we are here alone has made it even better. I just wished that we never had to return." She leaned against him and closed her eyes. She could stay here like this for the rest of her life and be happy.

Esme's smile was angelic by its self, and the mere fact that Carlisle was standing with her, was amazing. He felt like the luckiest man alive. Well maybe not alive but still, Esme was beautiful, funny, caring everything he could have ever asked and wished for, along with more. Just being there, Carlisle was content, just them no one to have an emergency or small disaster. Just quite.
Carlisle smiled, as he shook his head. "Esme you know that's not true. You would always want to be with the children no matter what, we both would." He said as he grinned at her, that was something they both couldn't change. Being away for a short time, was wonderful but the going home to everyone was great as well. "Never let go" He said, as she leaned against him. He sighed, as he picked her up into his arms. And started to laugh a little.

Esme smiled and closed her eyes. She could imagine them anywhere right then. But she didn't need to. The moment was perfect. There was an ocean breeze blowing the curtains to the open patio door, bringing in the smell of the salt water and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. She loved it here and Carlisle being with her made it even better.
"I know I would want to be with the kids." SHe said in a soft voice. "But this place is so perfect, our little piece of heaven. We can come here and get away from all our worries." She loved that she was able to spend this time with the person she loved the most in the world. "I would never wish to let you go."

It was everything and more than he could ask, or even have hoped for. To be with Esme, was wonderful, an every day miracle, that he was so very thankful for. That someone like him, could have such a beautiful woman love him, for exactly who and what he was. It was something that for so long had been beyond his wildest dreams. And now standing there, with the sound of the ocean, and the woman he loved more than anything in the world was the best moment in his life.
Carlisle smiled warmly at her, as he listened to her words. "What are you worried about Esme?" He asked her softly. "Its ok, I wont ever let you go." He said, as he hugged her tightly to him. "Nothing shall ever bother you, if I can help it. I promise" He told her, as he smiled. That was something he could never let happen, if any harm was to come to Esme, he wasn't sure what he would do. He could understand Edwards choice, easily as he thought about what he might do. But for now, he was content just to have Esme there with him.

She looked up at his face. She needed him. Without him, she would be nothing. "I worry about the family, a lot. Being a mother makes you worry about your children and your husband. As vampires we have to worry about not being exposed." There were so many things in the world that could cause them problems.
"Jasper is still a little touchy emotionally, and Rose genuinely dislikes Bella and Edward loves her deeply. There is so much going on and I feel like I should fix all of their problems, but I never know how." Then again, she can't fix anything without their approval.

"Esme, just stop... there is nothing to worry about while you are here. The children shall be fine, they are adults in their own right. And being exposed here is not a worry. Esme, you need to just take a break and relax." He said softly to her, as he smiled and tucked some of her hair behind her ear gently.
"Rose has never liked anyone who is human.. and I think the fact Bella is slowly becoming part of the family.. well it has thrown her a little. Jasper, I dont know how to help apart from just be there for his support." Carlisle smiled at Esme, she always cared so very much for everyone there was not a selfish bone in her body.
"Esme... here and now.. this is your time, a break where you no longer have to worry. Just relax, everything will work out" he said, hoping that it would. Carlisle gently pressed his lips to hers, as he hugged her tightly.
