Esme strode through the halls of the hospital. Had she not been hunting recently, the smell would have drove her over the edge, but today it wasn't that hard to hold back her urges.
She had on her normal grey pencil skirt and a frilly shirt with sensible heels. In her hand she held a garment bag with a new change of clothes for Carlisle. His assistant needed to be more careful. Iodine was hard to get out.
She opened the door to his office to find it empty. That was alright, she can wait. His patients came first. BEsides, she was slightly early.
She hung the clothes on the coat rack and sat down on the corner of his desk. He had a picture of the family on his desk along with a picture of the two of them. There were neat stacks of papers on the desk also. She had to admit that he had good organiizational skills.

Carlisle had been called out to attend to a young girl who had fallen from her bike. Nothing too serious just a few cuts and scrapes. He sighed slightly as he looked at the time, he only had a few minutes to get to his office to see Esme. He was nearly finished his shift, though partially glad to get away, he would also miss the place strangely enough.
Carlisle wore his usual white lab coat, along side a grey shirt, that now was covered in iodine stains. All thanks to a clumsy intern, who really had not found herself getting used to him yet. It was to be expected, however it did ruin his shirt and lab coat. He had a spare coat in his office, though he was hoping to escape and not be called out again. So he would end his shift in a relative peace.
He walked at a brisk pace, through the halls and towards his office hoping he was not too late. He had finished the last of his rounds for the day, so that was one thing he did not have to do until tomorrow. He quickly pushed open the door of his office, as his eyes came to rest upon Esme. "You look even better in person" He said, refering to their IM conversation earlier. He shut the door, as he walked over to her, and kissed her on the cheek.
Carlisle looked into her eyes, "Hungry?" He asked, wondering if she had found time to hunt. From what he could tell, the answer was no. "Are you sure you want to be here Esme?" He asked her, the hospital was full of blood, and people who were wounded, it would take a lot of restraint for her to hold back on biting people.

Esme smiled at him as he entered. He never ceased to amaze her. "I'm not terribly hungry. It really isn't that hard to resist." She told him honestly as she returned his kiss. She was learning to have more restraint when it came to her bloodlust. She wanted to be as docile as possible.
"I brought you a new shirt and tie. I wasn't sure what exactly you needed." She said pointing to the bag hanging on the coat rack. "You can never be too careful." She said. She didn't want him going home and having Alice scold him for looking a mess.

Carlisle smiled and nodded, "Your eyes are telling me a different story" He said, as he smiled softly at her. "You are right, it isn't but still if you feel you must leave, just tell me and I will take you home" He offered her, not wanting her to feel obligated to stay. Though he would be saddened to see her leave, there was no use in risking a possible attack, if it could be helped. He knew how strong Esme was to resisting human blood, and he loved her even more for that. Her resilience to it, was a great asset of hers.
His gaze followed to where Esme had pointed, as he looked back at her. "Thank you, good thought about a tie, I had missed that. Humans can be so clumsy around me." He said to her grinning slightly, as he nodded. "Yes, the last thing I want is Alice commenting on my dress style. You would think over the years I might have actually picked it up a bit more." He told her, as he took off his iodine stained lab coat, and placed it on the coat rack. "Do you mind if I change now?" He asked, knowing it was a slightly silly question, but still a question none the less.

Esme smiled at him. He cared so much about everything. He never wanted something to go wrong to harm people, especially his family. "I don't need to leave. I may need to feed tonight though. But I am fine at the moment." She didn't want to leave yet. She had just gotten here.
Esme had to hold back a laugh at his question. "By all means, change. I am not stopping you." She knew he asked out of sheer respect. He was such a gentleman sometimes. He shouldn't have to ask though. They had shared many nights together. She was accustomed to his body by now.

Esme and the 'children' were the only people in his life that he would risk everything for. Being cautious was just something he had become accustomed to, after all the years of checking things were ok. And that no one had found out their secret. It was a part of him and his personality, and would not change in the foreseeable future, though he would have to ask Alice about that as well. It was sometimes spooky that she could see parts of the future. Though they all had gifts, to use for a better purpose and to help their existence. "That's ok then, would you like some company?" He asked her, though he was not sure if he would be working or not. "If you are sure" He said, as he smiled at her.
Carlisle couldn't stop himself for laughing a little. "Thank you ma'am" He replied as he made his way over to the coat stand. He quickly unbuttoned his stained shirt, to reveal the pale skin of a slender man. He found the shirt in the bag, and slipped it on, quickly buttoning it up, as he turned up the collar, and tied the tie, into a knot as he stood for a moment. He checked that he looked ok, and put his tie, and shirt into the bag that the clean clothes had come in. "Thank you again for this" He said to her, Carlisle would always be respectful of others, and he would always be the gentleman, with one exception and that was baseball. "Not too bad, I think Alice might be proud" He joked, as he walked back over to Esme.

Esme stayed rooted to the spot where she sat on his desk. She knew she had the will power. But it would have been easier to have had a snack on the way. "I'm sure of it." She told him softly. "But I would enjoy your company tonight if you could spare the time. But if you need to work, I can understand, I can just take one of the girls with me." She would prefer it if Carlisle went. Yeah, she did enjoy being with the 'children' but Carlisle was her first love. She couldn't deny it.
She sat somberly as he quickly changed. He was too much of a gentleman for his own good, but it was a part of him. He couldn't just forsake his roots. "You are such a gentleman, but I love you for it." She said softly. She felt that this moment between them was sacred. A stolen minute shared by lovers. "Alice has had a firm influence on my style. She taught me everything I know."

He smiled at her as he bowed his head slightly. "You have always been the strong one" He said to her softly. It was true, she was the one who made him believe on bad days that he could still resist the urge to bite humans. Though he knew he had the strength, Esme made him stronger. Carlisle shook his head, "In about half an hour I am leaving. My paperwork is in my bag, and I would be honoured to accompany you tonight" He spoke softly as he smiled at her. Carlisle would not mind if the children came also, just to make sure there were no accidents, or dark eyes.
Carlisle could not help being the gentleman, it was just who he was. He cared a lot about others, and would do anything not to put them in awkward situations. He grinned at her words, "A gentleman, now that is a nice word for me" He said, for a long time he had thought he was a monster, and still did. There were few of his 'kind' around for a reason, though being a veggie was a good thing. Carlisle treasured every moment they had together, as he had seen first had just how quickly it could be taken away. "Well you have never looked more beautiful than you do now." He said to her, as he stood in front of her.

Esme smiled. They hadn't spent alone time in a while. There was always someone around interupting, but they had never minded. In half an hour the kids would still be in school. "Why the pleasure is all mine." She said with a smile.
"Have you ever thought you were anything but a gentleman?" She asked him playfully. She reached out and took his hand lacing their fingers together. "Blame Alice. She picked out my clothes this morning before heading off to school."

Time was something they had a lot of, but other things always got in the way of their time. Because they knew that they had the time, it was easier to put everything off, and just go with what was happening at that moment. Something that Carlisle should have known better not to do. "Why thank you" He replied, with a grin.
Carlisle was not quite sure how to answers Esme's question, but if the length of time he had lived. Had taught him anything, it was to be honest. "Yes" He said, "A monster" He explained in two short words, after he had been turned that was his exact thought. His only thought. He had questioned himself when he turned people. The family that he now had. He smiled warmly at Emse, as he felt her take his hand. "She made a good choice, I guess I am lucky that I get to pick my own. Though If it was not right, I doubt I would get out of the house" He teased.

Rosalie smiled at him. Her face close enough to kiss him. "You were never a monster." She told him bluntly. The thought of him ever being anything than what he was now was appalling. But that was Carlisle. He was always so modest and honest. He was everything that she ever needed.
"Alice has to make sure that we keep appearances. Sure she does a super job at it, but it does get a little bothersome sometimes." Yes she loved the girl, but she would get a little forceful sometimes. Well, when it came to Bella she was a tyrant. She was always nice to Esme. Rose would just do what she said to get her to leave her alone.

Carlisle had to disagree with her, "Esme, you know I was. Edward knew I was. I killed the people, I nw spend my life trying to save." He told her in almost a whisper. He had turned into the monsters, that he once hunted, and now he had to protect his family from being hunted. The same thing he would have done all those years ago. He had two different and conflicting views, however he would not change the place he was in at the moment, for anything.
Carlisle laughed as Esme spoke, "Keeping up appearances, all these years, you would think we have a handle on that" He joked, Carlisle loved all of the family, and now that included Bella. Most of the time, they listened to him and even when they needed to talk, they could talk to him. He never judged and always had a set of words for them. However he did his best not to sound condescending, or unhappy with their choices. Edwards choice was not an easy one he knew that, and respected them all for what they had come to accept and live with.

She kissed his cheek softly. "I know, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to believe it." He was a good man now. That was all she wanted to see him as. His past had shaped him into what he was now. All that mattered was that he wasn't still that monster he used to be.
She smiled warmly at him. "I know we are good at it. But Alice just makes it a little easier. I think she sees it as her job." Esme knew what they had to do to keep their secrets under wraps. There was so much they went without but yet they lived lavishly.

Carlisle grinned at Esme, "You always know how to make me feel better." He said to her, the one thing he could count on was as soon as he saw Esme, his day was brightened. And the world seemed to be a better place. Carlisle was glad he was no longer the man he used to be, the person he was now, he much preferred.
He nodded, "Well if she starts re arranging my wardrobe too much, I do not know what I shall do." Carlisle was not one for the latest fashion though his car was top of the range, one of the luxuries. "Considering we do not eat, we certainly by a lot of food" He said grinning at her, knowing it was necessary for appearance sake.

"It isn't that hard to make you happy." She teased. They had a world wind romance and it never ceased to take her breathe away at moments. He was her perfect match, like two matching puzzle pieces. They belonged together and it was apparent. Anyon that saw them could see it.
She smiled at him. "Don't worry, I will always be there to put it all back the way it was. You may be the only one that can get away with dressing like you do." She knew Alice could never cross Carlisle. It was hard to do because he never lost his temper. He was always calm no matter the situation. "We do feed Bella on occasion. I like her to have a wide variety of snacks to choose from while she is at our house."
